George J. Buszkiewic, 80, of Ash Creek, died Friday, April 9, 2004 at his residence, after a long battle with cancer.

Viewing is all day today, and visitation with the family will be 5-7 p.m. today at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bill Halvey officiating.

Burial will be in Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.

Mr. Buszkiewic was born March 17, 1924 in Monarch, to Ignace and Anna (Mates) Buszkiewic, of Ash Creek. He attended Ash Creek Country School and graduated from Sheridan High School.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for Big Horn Coal from 1947-82, when he retired as a welder and tipple operator.

He married Rose M. Legerski on Sept. 28, 1947 in St. Thomas Church in Monarch. They resided on the family ranch on Ash Creek.

Mr. Buszkiewic enjoyed spending time with his pets and animals, watching wildlife, repairing equipment in his shop and working on various projects. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and tending his garden. He shared his produce with family and friends.

He was a member of United Mine Workers Association Local 2055, serving as president for nine years, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of St. Edmund's Church in Ranchester.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Legerski.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linda Vanatta, of Ash Creek; son, George E., of Sheridan; a brother, John of Upper Prairie Dog Road; three stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
