A PIONEER GONE. _______ Rufus J. Eaton who Came Here in the Seventies Passes Away. _______

Rufus J. Eaton, an old land mark of this city, well and favorably known throughout Dallas, died at his residence, 115 Hays street, yesterday at 12 o'clock. Mr. Eaton was born at Worcester, Mass., 65 years ago. Tiring of his New England home, he decided to cast his fortune with the South, and accordingly, in the year 1878, he moved to Dallas, where he resided ever since. Before his health became impaired, he was one of the most successful building contractors in Dallas. He was a gentleman of sterling worth and Christian character, and his death is deplored by all who knew him. He was a member of the First Baptist church of this city, and was, during his younger days, a great worker in church affairs. The funeral will take place at 4 o'clock from the family residence.
