Bazil founded the town of Monroe on his farmland, and owned the first store in the town, operating it from 1879 to 1882. According to "Snow's History of Adams County," Bazil was one of the most active individuals in securing the construction of the Twelve-Cornered Church on the farm of Robert E. Smith. The 1870 census shows he and Mary still in Washington Township.
On June 2, 1869, Bazzel and Mary sold a right-of-way on their property in the north half of the east quarter of Section 4, Monroe Township; the southeast quarter of Section 33; and also the south half of the northwest quarter of Section 27. The right-of-way was purchased by the Cincinnatti, Richmond and Fort Wayne Railroad and allowed the railroad to pass through the town of Monroe and a short distance to the North.
