McIntosh - Richard I. Whittington, 93, passed away July 3, 2008. Mr. Whittington was born November 6, 1914 in Thomasville, Georgia to Ernest and Mary Whittington. He was in the first graduating class of P. K. Younge High School, he served in the US Marine Corp during World War II, was the VP of O. D. Huff Groves for 30 years and was Mayor of McIntosh for 13 years. He was a member, deacon and trustee of First Baptist Church of McIntosh. Mr. Whittington is survived by his wife of 73 years, Cade Thrasher Whittington; his son Richard I. Whittington of Little Rock, Ark.; 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Elizabeth Summers of McIntosh, Fla. Funeral services for Mr. Whittington will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of McIntosh with burial following at McIntosh Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 7, 2008 from 5:30-7 p.m. at WILLIAMS-THOMAS DOWNTOWN FUNERAL HOME, 404 N. Main Street, Gainesville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be make to the Salvation Army (salvationarmyusa.org) or to the First Baptist Church of McIntosh Building Fund P.O. Box 257, McIntosh, Florida 32664.
