George B. Freeland, 73, of Springvale died on Tuesday, December 12, 2006.

George was born in Winsor, Vermont on July 29, 1933 to Roy and Maude Abar Freeland. His Family moved to Wells when George was an infant and he grew up there, attending local schools. George worked for a time on the Rescue for the Wells Beach Fire Department. He married his wife Dorothy in June of 1960 and the couple moved to Sanford in 1964. He worked for the Town of Sanford Department of Public Works for 40 years operating heavy equipment. He was nicknamed "Silver Top" by his friends at the public works because of his gray hair. George was a very hard working person, holding down several part-time jobs after his retirement. He plowed snow in the wintertime for L.V. Allen & Sons, did paving work for the Paquin Brothers and was a grounds keeper for Riverside Cemetery in Springvale.

Mr. Freeland enjoyed working outside and took great pride in his gardening and landscaping around his home. He loved going on long scenic rides with his wife through the White Mountains and Vermont. He had an excellent sense of humor and was constantly teasing and joking with the people around him. He was a very friendly and personable man who had many friends. Family was a very important part of George's life. He was a very rough person on the exterior but was equally warm and loving on the inside. He will be remembered as kind and friendly man and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

George was predeceased by his wife Dorothy and his brother Richard Freeland.

He is survived by his daughter Lori Bond and her husband, Patrick of West Newfield, 4 step-children, Karen Miller and her husband Johnnie of Sanford, Paul Kimball, Jr. and his Wife Carol of Sanford, Kurt Kimball and his wife Maria of Windham and Debbie Daudier and her husband Bob of Saco; four brothers, Donald Freeland of Springvale, Stanley Freeland of St. Petersburg, FL, David Freeland of FL, and Frank Freeland; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

At George's request, funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Lakes Region Conservation Trust, P.O. Box 1097, Meredith, NH, 03253. Arrangements are through Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home in Springvale.
