CARTER LAKE - John "Mick" Ferryman lived to serve. The former Carter Lake assistant fire chief and city council member died early this week and was buried today at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha. The 75-year-old Ferryman and his wife Margaret "Maggie" were both on the volunteer fire and rescue service, according to Carter Lake mayor Emil Hausner. "John served 30 years and was a member when the department started," he said. "And I think Maggie was on it about as many years as Mick."

Hausner said Ferryman served eight years on the city council in the "late 80s and early 90s. He beat me out once and I beat him out once for a council seat," he said.

In addition to his wife, Ferryman is survived by daughter, Ann, and her husband, Bob Heeren; son, Rich and his wife, Karen, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

In addition to his service to Carter Lake, Ferryman was also very active in the Shriners, Hausner said.

"Our entire community thanks him and Maggie for all they've done," he said.
