July 18, 1885 issue of Petersburg Observer:
Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Blane's little boy, Pete, died of scarlet fever last Saturday evening, aged six years, seven months and twenty four days. Little Pete suffered quite a while before the death messenger came to his relief. We believe the other cases of scarlet fever in Mr. Blane's family are getting along nicely. In their more than double trial of sadness the family have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.
