Mrs. Laura Swaim Passes Away; Rites Saturday P.M.

Mrs. Laura L. Swaim of 203 N. Franklin Street, a beloved personality in the city's life, passed away at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday as an ambulance was bearing her to Jasper County hospital. She had been in ill health for a period of three months.

The widow of Jesse Swaim, she was born in Rensselaer March 29, 1890, the daughter of George Switzer and Mary (Abbott) Switzer. She was educated in Rensselaer city schools. Her marriage took place in Rensselaer. Mr. Swaim passed away in 1938, She was a lifetime resident of Rensselaer community.

Mrs. Swaim was a member of Trinity Methodist Church and a member of Circle two and the Dorcas class of that church and of Rebekah Lodge 346 of Rensselaer.

The immediate survivors are a son, Maurice ("Buck") Swaim, of Laguna Beach, California; a daughter, Mrs. Lililan Grant of Inverness, Florida; a sister, Mrs. Clara Johnson, of Michigan City, three brothers, John Switzer and Emmor Switzer of Rensselaer and Warren Switzer of Montgomery, Alabama; three grandchildren, Robert Swaim of Dayton, Ohio, Gary Grant of Florida and Mrs. Jerry Spall of Rensselaer, and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Swaim was extremely active in church work and in the activities of the Rebekah lodge. Her devotion to those organizations and to her friends was deep and abiding. Her beautiful character and charming personality endeared her to all.

The funeral services will be held from Trinity Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Loran Campbell officiating. Interment will be in Weston Cemetery. Friends will be received at Granlund Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Friday. Rebekah services will be held at the Funeral Home at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The remains will lie in state at the church for one hour preceding the services.
