Mr. Sanders was born Jan. 1, 1914, in Berkeley County, a son of the late Lewis C. Sanders and Mrs. Ida Smith Sanders. He attended Berkely County schools and Duke University. He served as a United Methosist minister for 10 years and in the Southern Methodist conference for 13 years.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Margaret Riley Sanders of Andrews; four sons, Samuel Lewis Sanders of Aynor, Richrd Riley "Dickey" Sanders of Andrews, Alton Waring Sanders Jr. of Georgetown, and Charles Willis Sanders of Unicoi, Tenn; two daughters, Mrs. Martha Moree of Andrews and Mrs. Becky Mercer of Clovis Air Force Base, N.M.; two brothrs, Ralph T. Sanders Sr. and Calhoun Sanders, both of Summerville; four sisters, Mrs. J. R. Owens, Mrs. I. R. Gelzer, and Mrs. J. S. Linder, all of Summerville, and Mrs. C. F. West of Moncks Corner; 20 grandchildren.
