County Citizen Dies Suddenly Saturday Night
William Penn Frederick, age 75, passed away suddenly at the home of his brother-in-law, Ernest Hudson, in the Mt. Gilead community on Saturday night, April 19. Mr. Frederick was born in Marion County, Alabama, coming to Mississippi in early boyhood. He was a retired farmer of Prentiss and Tishomingo counties. In 1903 he was married to Miss Lena Bell Davis, who passed away 30 years ago. In 1949 he married Mrs. Betty Todd, who survives. He was the father of 14 children, 11 surviving.
Funeral services were conducted at Forked Oak Church on Monday afternoon with Bro. J. A. Blunt officiating. Burial was in adjoining cemetery with Cutshall funeral home directing.
Survivors are, other than his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Vela Fell, Iuka, Mrs. Hazel Whitfield and Mrs. Edra Mae Rhodes, Memphis, Mrs. Edith Slone, Jeffersonville, Ind; seven sons, Bolivar, Holcut, Forest, Louisville, Ky, Noah, Florence, Ala, Drinnin, Iuka, Thaddis, and Maynard, Sheffield, Ala, Jack, Fort Myers, Fla; one step-son, Howell Todd, Iuka; 28 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; two brothers, Jim and Chester Frederick, Iuka; four sisters, Mrs. Velma Miller, Sandy Hook, Miss., Mrs. Ella Miller, Sheffield, Ala, Mrs. Rockie Prater, and Mrs. Jennie Johnson, Iuka; a number of nieces and nephews.
Grandsons served as pallbearers. They were: E. B. Fell, Jr., Doyle Grimes Frederick, Hoyle Wade Frederick, Billy Fell, Roy K. Frederick and J. W. Whitfield.
