Malen Arthur Mecham, 96, of Tropic, Utah passed away on July 2, 2008 at Garfield Memorial Hospital in Panguitch, Utah.





He was born October 19, 1911 in Tropic, Utah to Emery J. and Elizabeth Francis Hatch Mecham. He married Angelyn Lovell on July 11, 1933 in the Manti LDS Temple. She proceeded him in death on July 10, 1982. He married Marian Winters Shakespear on May 6, 1989 for time in the St. George LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on August 21, 2005. Dad spent most of his life working in the timber and as a heavy equipment operator beginning his career with horse teams up to motorized equipment. He worked on the road at Bryce Canyon and helped construct the dam at Tropic Reservoir. His church service included 11 years as a bishop, a councilor in the stake presidency, high councilman, and avid temple attender. Civic duties include: Tropic Town board, served as mayor and town marshall; Garfield County Commissioner; Garkane Energy; Garfield Memorial Hospital Board, Garfield County School District. Also earned the Silver Beaver Award in Scouting. Dad's life was devoted to the church and also to service in helping others. When there was a tough job to do, he was the man to do it.





Malen is survived by his children: Lowell J (Barbara) Mecham, Tropic; Stanley L. (Nellie Rae) Mecham, Tropic; Jerry E. (Bonnie) Mecham, Green River; 23 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wives; son: Malen Junior; brothers and sisters: John, Starns, Viva, Ira, Ardell, Emery and Vilate; daughters-in-law: Margaret and Koye ; grandsons: Harvey and Zane Mecham, great-grandson, Anthony Talbot.





Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 7, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Tropic LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call prior to the Services at the Ward Chapel from 10:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m.
Burial will be in the Tropic Cemetery.
