Per: John Greer ( [email protected] ):
I am sure you have read that Richard was born in Philadelphia. I do not believe that is true. Remember that 1780 was the middle of the War. I do not believe that someone would be moving to North Carolina with a young child. The history of Warrick County information was supplied by a Greer relative that was either very young when Richard died or possibly not yet born.
Now look at the 1850 and 1860 census. Richard never states he was born in Pa. In fact 1860 states Washington District. There was no D C in 1780. There was a Washington District North Carolina. When Tennessee was formed Washington District became a part of Eastern Tn.

Richard's will was written & witnessed on January 2, 1865. It was proved and recorded on October 14, 1865, therefore his death occured sometime in 1865 & not in 1866 as indicated on his headstone.
