Ellen E Wallace, b.1870, was born in Albany, Linn County, Oregon, a daughter of pioneers. Her father was J. H. Wallace, a native of Maryland, b.1839. Her mother was Annie M. Wallace, a native of Indiana, b.1842, who died in Dec. 1896, after Ellen had married. She loved Samuel Smith Bodine, but, due to familial obligations on his part towards his mother, they did not marry until Nov.2, 1895 when she was 25 and he was 31. The couple made their home in Toledo, in Lincoln County. I don't know what his occupation was while they lived there, but it wasn't as strenuous as farming that he had done from the time his father had died when he was only a lad of 5 yrs. In the census, he stated he had his own income, which could have been from renting out their home in Albany or from investments. He had worked from an early age, trying, with his brothers and sisters, to keep the family farm for his mother, Margaretha Young (Foster) Bodine (1828-1900), and they had succeeded in keeping her supported until she passed away. Samuel and Ellen, the happy couple, were blessed with two daughters during their marriage. Their first daughter was Dorothy, who was born in 1903 and later married Wyatt Peck who was a corporal in the "Air Service", an early title for the Army Air Corps of World War II, finally named the Air Force. Their second daughter was Bertha Orv Bodine, b.1905, who worked as a stenographer at the lumber mill in Toledo for many years. When she retired she moved to Portland, Oregon, which is where she passed on in 1984. She was buried by family members at Riverside Cemetery in Albany. Samuel died on June 18, 1929 when he was the age of 65 yrs. His wife, Ellen, had passed in 1916 at the age of 46, from causes unknown to me. Their lives together while they were alive were all too brief, but they have eternity to be together now.
