James K. "Jim" Broom, 76, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008 at Palo Pinto Hospital in Mineral Wells.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at White's Mineral Wells Funeral Chapel, 101 N.E. 4th Ave., Mineral Wells. Interment to follow in Soda Springs Cemetery, Parker County. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Jim Broom was born Sept. 26, 1931 in Palo Pinto County, the son of the late Wiley and Nancy Wells Broom. Jim married the former Thalta Wright on Sept. 28, 1951 and together started their family of three children. He proudly served in the Air Force National Guard. Jim was a director of Mineral Wells Jr. Jaycees, Millsap School Board member, a member of the Road Runner Travel Club and the Mountain River Volunteer Fire Dept. Jim, very active in the community, also served as election clerk and the election judge in Parker County. He made his career working for Texas Power and Light and retired in 1987 after 37 years of service. Jim was a member of Soda Springs Baptist Church where he was also a deacon since July 4, 1963.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Thalta, in 2004; his parents; and daughter-in-law, Lana Cooper Broom.

Survivors include sons, Randy Broom of Granbury, Craig Broom and wife, Gina, of Sherman; daughter, Renya Broom of Mineral Wells and her special friend, T.C. Casey, of Millsap; grandsons, Tyler Broom of Houston, Tanner Broom of Granbury, Colton Broom of Sherman; brothers and sisters, Don Broom of Fort Worth, Charles Broom of Quitman, Bob Broom of Woodville, Ted Broom of Branson, Mo., Jerry Broom of Mineral Wells, Ann Smyers of Fort Worth, Marguriete Crum of Mineral Wells, Louise Duvall of Poolville; special aunt, Florine Crawford of Fort Worth; "Precious Friend" Betty Jones; and a host of loving family and friends.

Jim's faith was genuine, quiet and practical. He deeply believed in God, in life, in others and in himself. Several things happened to him along the way that might have embittered him. He never held a grudge or harbored resentment. Jim made it easy for his family to believe in a Heavenly Father whose stead fast love endures forever. He will Friend" Betty Jones; and a host of loving family and friends.

Jim's faith was genuine, quiet and practical. He deeply believed in God, in life, in others and in himself. Several things happened to him along the way that might have embittered him. He never held a grudge or harbored resentment. Jim made it easy for his family to believe in a Heavenly Father whose stead fast love endures forever. He will never be forgotten.
