Glyda Marlene (Haines) Kent, 85, passed peacefully into the hands of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ on April 19, 2008. She was born in Lucas County, Iowa, the daughter of Alva and Ruth Haines. She was married to Roy Kent on November 19, 1943. He preceded her in death on July 4, 1987. Four children were born to this union: Audrey, Marvin, Diana and Janice. She was also preceded in death by her son, Marvin on May 30, 1968, her brother, Kenneth Haines on March 20, 1945 and her parents.
Glyda loved life, serving her Lord in whatever way she was called. In 1989, she moved to Southgate Apartments in Chariton, where she was on the board. She was a 49 year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lucas, where she taught Bible School, was active in the UPW, an Elder and Clerk of Session. She volunteered at the Chariton Senior Center for years. Glyda won the Governor's Volunteer of the Year Award in 1997.
Glyda fought a courageous battle with cancer for 14 years. Her cheerful, positive spirit and her love for the Lord touched so many lives. She enjoyed being a farm wife, working in the garden and canning. Most of all she loved being a mother and grandmother.
She is survived by three daughters: Audrey(Bill) Montgomery, Chariton~ Diana(David)Schmiedeke, Des Moines~ Janice(John)Diefenthaler, Evansville, Wisconson;
grandchildren: Janice Masterson, Rob LaRue, Lyle LaRue, Amy(Chris)Tarr, Kevin(Bridget)Gehlsen, Brian Gehlsen and Jacob Diefenthaler;great grandchildren: Katie, Robbie, Austin, Samantha, Diana Jean and Michael LaRue~ Dan, Caitie, Nathan and Emily Tarr~ Emmah Gehlsen. Glyda is also survived by a brother and three sisters: Darl(Jeannette)Haines, Evelyn Craig, Doris Oldham and Zella Hintz.
