John R. Alonzo, 81, passed away Monday, September 5, 2005 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, Kansas.

He was born in Chanute, Kansas on August 29, 1924, the son of Nicholas and Lenore (Villiesenor) Alonzo.

He graduated from St. Patricks Jr. High School and continued on to graduate from Chanute High School in the Class of 1943.

He served his country during WWII.

He was united in marriage to Antonia Flores of Humboldt, on June 18, 1949.

He retired from Ash Grove Cement Company in 1986.

He was involved in the Knights of Columbus, Chanute Mexican Fiesta Committee, and the V.F.W.

He is survived by his wife Antonia of the home; four sons, Nicholas, Marcos, Gilbert, and Bernard; four grandchildren, Kris, David, Johnathon and Emily, all of Chanute, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and three brothers, Refugio (Mary Cuca) Marquez, Juanita Cabrera, Domatila Gonzales, Belen Savedra, Grace Alonzo, Refugio Alonzo, Anthony Alonzo and Rapheal Alonzo.

Funeral Mass will be held September 8, 2005 at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Chanute, Kansas, led by Father Thomas Scaletty, celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Patricks Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials in his name may be made to St. Patricks School Building Fund and may be left with the funeral home.
