Mr. Thompson died June 28, 2008, in a Jacksonville hospital.
He was born April 9, 1918, in Mount Haven community near Jacksonville, where he grew up and attended school. He was a lifelong resident of the area and a bricklayer and house mover. He was a member of Greater New Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Darsilmer Guinn Thompson; sons, Homerzell Thompson and Dexter Thompson, both of Grandview, Mo., and Chester Thompson Jr., Lee's Summit, Mo.; daughter, LaMyrle Itah, Houston; brother, Anthony Thompson, Pine Grove; sister, Pearlie Mosley, Inglewood, Calif.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and 10 a.m.-service time Saturday at the church.
