On January 30, 1907, he married Frances Barbara Hommer in a double wedding ceremony with his cousin, Will Church and bride, Ethel Downey, in the Vince Downey home. They were members of the Pleasant Hill Church and he was a trustee for a number of years. He was also a director of Davis school for many years. Clarence was a successful farmer and livestock buyer, and also sold feed. He liked to do arithmetic and could figure most problems in his head. His daughter, Eleanor, remembers he had a drag to blade the dirt roads and would work one day for free to pay his poll tax. He loved to visit with people. He died on June 14, 1970, in Warren County, Iowa.
