LaVaughn L. Clark Fowlie, 94 longtime resident of Coralville died Monday, January 30, 2012 at the Atrium Village in Hills, Iowa where she has resided.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 2, 2012, at the Coralville United Methodist Church with the Reverend Doug Williams officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Indianola, Iowa. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Thursday until services at the church in Coralville.

LaVaughn Luella Smith was born March 12, 1917, in New Virginia, Iowa the daughter of William N. and Thora (Sayre) Smith. She attended Hoosier Row Rural School in Warren County, IA, graduated from Indianola High School in 1934, and had attended Simpson College there. She married Dorris D. Clark on May 5, 1935, in Guthrie Center, Iowa.

The couple and their family moved from Indianola to Coralville in July of 1952. Dorris died in June of 1962, she later married Gerald G. Fowlie on March 19, 1977, at the Coralville United Methodist Church where they both were active members, in fact she was one of the charter members of the church. For over twenty years she worked for the University of Iowa Hospitals as a coding clerk. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge #416, and the D.A.R.

Her family includes her three sons, James Clark (Betty) of Cedar Rapids; William E. Clark (Donna) of Florence, KY; and Gerald Clark (Judith) of Coralville; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Bernard Smith (Ethel) of Indianola.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Dorris Clark and Gerald Fowlie; son, Robert D. Clark; and a half-brother, Kenneth Smith.
