husband of Laura Chase and
father of Ford Snyder and
son of Solomon Snyder and Hannah SteinDavid R Snyder was born July 14, 1832 to Solomon and Hannah Stein Snyder, the third child of the family preceded by his two brothers, Henry, born in 1826 and Solomon Jr, born in 1830. When David turned 18 in 1850 he left home in Muncy Creek to work as a farmhand for probable relatives, John and Juliana Snyder who lived in Newton township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. David eventually made his way to Potter County and by 1858 he was living in Potter County where he met the family of Johnson and Sarah Roberts Chase who had moved to Potter County from Livingston County, New York. Johnson and his wife were farming in Sweden township outside of Coudersport, PA.
David fell in love with their 16 year old daughter, Laura Chase, nine years his younger. In 1859 they were married and a year later, while they were still living with Laura's parents, they had their first child whom they named Wright.
By 1860 David and Laura had moved to their own farm in Homer township on the south side of Mitchell Hollow Road, the dividing line between Eulalia and Homer townships. There in Homer township 1862 their sons, Ford (1862) and Stephen Douglas (1863) were born. David's brothers had enlisted in the Union Army of Pennsylvania but David remained in Potter County. It wasn't until February of 1865 that David was most likely drafted into the Union Army where he served for a period of five months.
In July he returned to his family and farm in Homer township and a year and a half later, in 1867 Leora, the first daughter of David and Laura was born followed in 1869 by Eunice, born on the 4th of July. In 1880 David, Laura and all of their children were living together on their farm in Homer township.
Less than a year later David contracted pneumonia and died on May 30th 1881. He was buried in the Sweden Hill cemetery. Eleven years after his death, his mother-in-law, Sarah Roberts Chase was laid to rest in a gravesite next to David and later in 1895 his father-in-law, Johnson Chase was laid to rest next to Sarah.
David's wife, Laura survived David and in 1885 she remarried. Her second husband was John L. Miller
