Neill and his wife Mary (McDougal) McDonald arrived in Neshoba County in 1839 from Robeson County, NC, with their family. They had traveled in a wagon train headed for MS. This wagon train was made up of descendants of immigrants from the highlands of Scotland, whose names were McKay, McDonald, McMillan, McNair, McPhaul, McDougal, etc.

In MS, they acquired land from the Choctaw tribe whose heirs brought a lawsuit against "Alex McKay, Neil McDonald, et. al." to set aside the transaction (sale of Choctaw land.)

The Choctaw did regain their land in the northwest corner of Neshoba County. It is here that the Eastern capital of the Choctaw tribe is located.

Neill and Mary were founding members of the Carolina Presbyterian Church in Neshoba County, MS, in 1841. Neill was an Elder in that church.

In 1868 Mary moved to Texas with many family members and neighbors.

Neill and Mary were the parents of:

1. Jane Smiley (McDonald) Stribling

2. Margaret McDonald

5. Evander McNair McDonald

6. Sarah A. Caroline (McDonald) Simmons
