PFC Corey L. Small of East Berlin, Pennsylvania attended Bermudian Springs Schools and New Oxford High School. He graduated from Oxford Christian Academy, New Oxford, July 2001. He formerly participated in baseball and football in elementary at Bermudian Springs; and formerly participated in soccer in AYSO and then with Bermudian Springs. Corey was a member of Zwingli UCC, East Berlin, where he was former president of the Youth Group at the church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his son. His mother had reservations when he talked about joining the Army after high school. But that didn't stop him. He enlisted in the Delayed Entry Program and entered into Basic training as an E-2 in July, 2001 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and had advance studies at Goodfellow AirForce Base before being assigned to Fort Polk, La., where he was deployed to Iraq. In addition to his wife, mother and step father, he is survived by six sisters and one brother and his son, among others. Members of the East Berlin Veterans of Foreign Wars post performed military honors, including a 21-gun salute. He was buried next to his grandfather. Corey died in Baghdad, Iraq from a non-combat related cause at age 20.
