Gladys Metts
HUGOTON — Gladys Metts, 93, died Sunday, June 22, 2008, at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal.
She was born May 15, 1915 in Lamar, Colo., the daughter of George and Ella (Herbold) Wietrick. She married George McNemer in 1991 in Hugoton. He survives.
She came to Hugoton in 1950 and was a hairdresser for 55 years at the Kut N Kurl, which she owned.
She was also a member of the Hugoton Women's VFW Auxiliary and Hugoton Baptist Church. She enjoyed shopping and dancing and was active at the Senior Dances. She will be deeply missed by her husband, family, friends and community.
Other survivors include son Kenneth Nelson and wife, Charlotte, of Vancouver, Wash.; two daughters, Louise Harris, Hugoton, and Annette Larson, Atchison; one sister, Lucille Thomas, Pueblo, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Gladys is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Russell Nelson and Clarence "Pete" Metts; three brothers; two sisters; and one great-grandson, Seth Clark.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hugoton Baptist Church, with the Rev. Shane Bowyer officiating. Interment will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home.
