Artist. The daughter of the composers Alma Mahler and Gustav Mahler, the latter of whom died when she was only seven. She married a musician, Rupert Koller, at the age of sixteen. The marriage did not last long and soon she moved to Berlin where she met the composer Ernst Krenek. They married in 1924, but she left him within a year. She began taking art lessons with Giorgio de Chirico and soon discovered sculpture as the medium in which she could best express her creativity. She started taking lessons and became an established sculptress in Austria, getting an award the Grand Prix in Paris in 1937. She fled Nazi to England where two more failed marriages followed. One of her husbands was the Russian conductor Anatole Fistoulari. They had a daughter, Marina Fistoulari, born in 1943. Anna spent happy years with Anatole and Marina, fruitful years for her work. After the War, she lived in California for some years, moving back to England at the end of her life. She married again and left her fifth husband at the age of seventy-five. As well as sculpting successfully in stone, she produced bronze heads of many of the musical giants of the 20th century including Arnold Schönberg, Alban Berg, Artur Schnabel, Otto Klemperer, Bruno Walter and Rudolf Serkin.
