John Sloan, born Feb 3, 1832, has a CSA pension application on line, courtesy of GA Archives virtual vault. He enlisted in Co. C of the 61st GA regiment. He was wounded in Gettysburg and Fairfax, Va. He was disabled in both legs. While he was on wounded furlough, he was elected sheriff of Colquitt County. He was discharged due to disability and need at home. In later years he was a carpenter, but in his last years his wife died and children moved away. He lived around with different neighbors helping feed their stock and staying wherever welcomed...poor and needy, in his own words...
