Tessie Beck Michael, 83, of Arvil Hunt Road, Lexington, N. C. departed this life Sunday, June 10, 2007 after a fight with cancer since January, 2007. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Steve Ackerman, Rev. John Pace, and Rev. Morris Hollifield. Burial will be in Reeds Baptist Church Cemetery. Tessie had been a member of Reeds Baptist Church for over 60 years and had previously served many years as a nursery leader. Tessie was born August 16, 1923 in Davidson County to Thomas Lindsay and Mary Elizabeth Snider Beck who preceded her in death. She graduated from Churchland High School and married her sweetheart, Forrest M. Michael of Reeds. She is survived by her husband of 63 years of the home and their two children, daughter, Mary Sue, son-in-law Roger Hedrick, son, Gary, and daughter-in-law, Cynthia. Tessie also had three grandchildren whom she loved dearly: Regina and her husband Kenneth Spach of Lexington, N.C.; Kevin Hedrick and his wife Melissa of Morven, N.C.; and Leah and her husband Steve Leonard of Linwood, N.C. Her very precious great grandchildren are Erika Spach, Brandon Sikes, Claire Leonard, and "baby" Hedrick. Tessie was preceded in death by three brothers, Claude Beck of Lexington, N.C.; Fred Beck of Carthage, N.C.; and Arthur "John" Beck of High Point, N.C.; and one sister, Minnie Carter of Lexington, N.C. She is survived by one sister Willie and her husband Leo Grubb of Lexington, N.C. and two brothers, Charlie L. Beck of Lexington, N.C. and George Frank Beck and his wife Betty Lou of Florence, South Carolina. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Bess Beck of Carthage, N.C.; Rachel and her husband Ralph Logan of High Point, N.C.; Connie Forrest and Jeanette Shoaf both of Lexington, N.C.; and brother-in-law Flynn Michael also of Lexington, N.C. Tessie was very active with her household chores. She very much enjoyed her gardening and flowers, mowing of the lawn, and watching her birds. She is best remembered for cooking and baking which she enjoyed doing until the last nine months. Tessie and Forrest enjoyed meeting old friends and making new friends as members of local, state and national Numismatic Associations for over fifty years. She was the 2006 recipient of the John J. Pittman Award presented by the North Carolina Numismatic Association for her life-long dedication to and support of other numismatists. The family wishes to express its sincerest appreciation to Piedmont Home Care of Lexington, N.C. for its care during the early stages of her illness. Words cannot express our gratitude for the love, compassion, and excellent care provided to Tessie and the family by Hospice of Davidson County. A special loving thanks to those family members who were always stopping by to show their love and support.
