The family of Jake Kenneth Thompson, Sr. sadly wishes to announce his passing on Nov. 29, 2002.

Services will be held at the Betts Funeral Service Chapel on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002

at 10 a.m. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Bett's Funeral Home, Wenatchee.

Jake was born Jan. 3, 1919 to Milton Aaron Thompson and Fern (Rider) Thompson in Blackfoot, ID. He attended and graduated from high school in Hamer, ID in 1937. In May of 1942 he enlisted in the US Coast Guard. He was a Machinist's Mate 2nd class. While he was stationed in Seattle, he met and married Charlotte Mae Kiser on July 11, 1943. Jake and Charlotte celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary this year.

After his discharge from the US Coast Guard, he, Charlotte and Jake Kenneth Jr. who was born June 6, 1944 moved to Wenatchee. He worked for William A. "Bill" Kiser who was a contractor and home builder. After a brief time as a trooper with the Washington State Patrol, he returned to the building trades. For the next nearly 50 years Jake worked as a plumbing contractor. He worked on projects in most of the United States including Alaska and Hawaii as well as in numerous foreign countries.

Jake never really retired. He continued working on a regular basis as "plumber on call" for many friends and relatives providing them with wisdom gained from years of experience. He could figure out plumbing with or without plans and was even known to solve problems with little more than a pencil sketch or FAX picture and a phone call. He was most recently instrumental in helping to renovate an historic house and converting it to a Bed & Breakfast for his daughter Elizabeth and her partner John Taylor in Delta, CO.

Jake enjoyed salmon fishing in Alaska with his youngest son William A. "Bill" on several trips there. After catching his limit he always managed to do a little work for friends and family. He was heard to live by the work adage, "A change is as good as a rest." He enjoyed the challenge of fixing things, woodworking and clock building and family gatherings.

Jake Thompson will be fondly remembered as a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather and dear friend to many who will recall him as always having a kind warm smile and a pleasant word for everyone he met. He had a dry sense of wit and a fun-loving nature.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Charlotte (Kiser) Thompson, Wenatchee; one daughter, Elizabeth Anne and partner John F. Taylor, Delta, CO.; one son, William Aaron "Bill" Thompson and wife Jewell, Wenatchee; three grandchildren, Michele, Tammy and Kenny. Also surviving are a sister, Dorothy Mitchell, and brothers, Raymond and Milton "Tommy" all of Idaho.

Jake was preceded in death by a son, Jake Kenneth "Ken" Thompson, Jr. in 1997.

As a longtime member of Wenatchee Seventh-Day Adventist Church he requested that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Dorcus Society or your favorite charity.

Jake's family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks for the generous gifts of friendship and visits from friends and neighbors that were extended to him most recently in his declining health. Thank you for your prayers and kind support.
