Harold Adkinson was born March 22, 1914, the second child of James R. and Clara (Blaue) Adkinson near Pierce, Nebraska, and died December 4, 1997 at Gordon, Nebraska at the age of 83. Harold moved to Keya Paha County at an early age, and lived and ranched there until his retirement in 1978. As a young man he worked in western Nebraska where he met his future wife, Mary Schoen. They were married in Gordon, Nebraska on September 7, 1938. They farmed and ranched in Keya Paha County until her death in 1977 and were the parents of three children, Glenda, Dale and Betty.
Harold loved to visit with friends and especially enjoyed having visitors in his home. He took pride in farming and ranching and always kept his place neat and trim. Hard work and honesty were important to him, and he stressed these values with his family. His grandchildren enjoyed spending time on the ranch and learned from his good example and encouragement.
In May of 1978 he married Eulah Zahl, and they spent their retirement years in Bassett. Together they enjoyed traveling, sharing new experiences, new friends, and their expanded family. Anyone knowing Harold knew he couldn’t be idle for very long, so many hours were spent enjoying the countryside, visiting the senior center, and playing cards. Due to his declining health, he spent the last five years in the Bassett and Gordon Care centers.
