Margaret Dillon Terhune, Age 85, of Murray, Kentucky, died Tuesday, November 9, 2004, at 1:15 p.m. at her home. One of the first Calloway County public librarians in the early 1960s, she was librarian at Murray Training School or Murray College High School, as it was called when it closed in the mid-1970s. Her area of expertise was children's literature. She taught and worked at Murray State University Library until her retirement in 1983. She also taught English as an exchange teacher in Kumming, China, in 1989. Mrs. Terhune graduated from Decatur High School in Marion County, Indiana, in 1931; graduated from Butler University, Indianapolis, in 1936; received her master of education at Murray State University in 1962; and her master of library science from Peabody College, Nashville, Tennessee, in 1978. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Murray, where she served as an elder and was active in the Dorothy Moore Circle. She was a member of the Murray Branch of American Association of University Women. Preceding her in death were three sons, Dr. J. Nicholas Terhune, Thomas E. Terhune and Matthew L. Terhune; one sister, Marcia R. Dillon; and two brothers, Robert W. Dillon and James 0. Dillon. Born July 8, 1991, in Bridgeport, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Ralph W. Dillon and Helen S. Dillon. Survivors include her husband, Russell W. Terhune, to whom she had been married for 60 years; four children, Daniel D. Terhune and wife, Cathy of Fort Worth, Texas, Rebecca T. Gay and husband, Joe of Sugar Land, Texas, Dr. Penelope T. Louis and husband, Bill of Houston, Texas, and Bryan T. Terhune of San Francisco, California; daughter-in-law, Dr. Marjorie W. Terhune of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; two brothers, Ralph R. Dillon of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Joseph Dillon of Plainfield, Indiana Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Bradley N. Terhune, Kirk W. Terhune, Kimberly M. Terhune, Virginia E. Faulk, Russell W. Terhune, Allan Terhune, Andrew D. Terhune, Justin M. Gay, Stephen J. Gay, Connor C. Terhune, George G. Louis and Mark A. Louis; one great-grandson, Johnathan D. Terhune. The funeral will be Friday, November 12 at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, Murray, Kentucky. Burial will be in the Center Friends Cemetery, Bridgeport, Indiana. Visitation will be at J.H. Churchill Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 11.
