Joel T. Bloom, 37, of Cook, formerly of International Falls, died unexpectedly at home, due to health reasons, on Jan. 9, 2003.
He was born on February 15, 1965, at International Falls, where he grew up and graduated from the Falls High School in 1983. He joined the Army, serving for two years.
After his service duty, he returned to the Falls, where he started working for the Koochiching County Highway Department in 1988. He married Christine Bombay Herrly on June 26, 1999, at International Falls. In November 2000, he transferred to the Cook area, where he was a current senior equipment operator for the St. Louis County Highway Department. They have lived permanently in Cook since July of 2001.
Joel was affiliated with the Lutheran Church, was a member of the Teamster’s Union, and active in AA. He loved his family, his job and was an ardent worker, and he loved to converse with anyone. He enjoyed fishing, football, motorcycle riding, and playing board games. Joel was the family chef at all of their outdoor barbecues.
He is survived by his wife, Christine of Cook; a daughter, Ashley Lee Pullar, at home, a son, Christian Joel Bloom at home; a brother, Clinton (Alice) Bloom of International Falls; two sisters, Renee Knutson of Potwin, Kan. and Jenny (Rod) Day of Bigfork, Mont.; one aunt, Leona Christopherson of International Falls; along with nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Lutheran Church in International Falls. Rev. Tom Aitken will be the officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the funeral, on Tuesday. Interment will be in the Falls Cemetery.
