Michael Steve York, Jr., was born on August 24, 1970, to Michael, Sr., and Brenda (Davis) York, in Hampton, VA. When he was a young child he moved with his family to Smithfield, VA, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1988.

Steve enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 7, 1990, and was discharged on July 22, 1992. He returned to Smithfield after his discharge and began working as a pipe fitter. His work took him to many different locations throughout the United States, including Huron, SD, in 1999.

On November 2, 1999, Steve married Lenore Vig in North Platte, NE. Steve's work as a pipe fitter took the couple to various cities in Nebraska, South Dakota, and Virginia, before returning to Huron in 2001, where they have since made their home.

He was a member of the Pipe Fitter's Union, and he attended the Church of the Open Bible in Huron. His interests included cars, with the dream of finding a 1951 Chevy that he could restore. He was an avid sports fan of the North Carolina Panthers and North Carolina Tar Heels.

He is survived by his wife, Lenore of Huron; 2 daughters, Sierra (whom Steve called "Sunshine"), and Ashtynn (whom Steve called "Super Girl"); his mother, Brenda York of Huron; his father, Michael (Sue) York, Sr. of Smithfield, VA; 1 brother, Michael "Rodney" York of Huron; 1 sister, Candis Michelle (Gregory) Askew of Huron; his paternal grandmother, Margaret York of Smithfield, VA; many nieces and nephews.
