He was a retired farmer, a veteran of World War I and a native of Madison County. He had lived in Buncombe County for 51 years.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Verdie Arrington Reece; two daughters, Mrs. Edna Overman and Mrs. Helen Neubert of Candler Rt. 1; three sons, Joe B. and James C. of Asheville and Lester N. Reece of Candler Rt. 4; a sister Mrs. Laura Cook of Marshall Rt. 3; a brother, the Rev. Jonah Reece of Candler; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.
The Revs. Ray Long, David Plemmons and Alton Rathbone will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Hoy, Oliver and Herschel Reece, Paul Capps, Leroy and J.B. Arrington.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.
