Greenview, Ill., Sept. 1. - The funeral of James McAtee was held from the Presbyterian church.

Mr. McAtee was at the home of his son, Elmer, helping thresh Thursday when he was stricken ill and passed away Friday at 5 o'clock.

Mr. McAtee was born at New Salem, April 17, 1849 [sic?].

Mr. McAtee served through two enlistments in the army during the civil war and was in Sherman's march to the sea, receiving an honorable discharge at the close of the war.

In 1870 [sic?], he was married to Rebecca Cord [sic] to which union two children were born, Elmer E., residing on the old home place, and Mrs. Addie Killion of this city, who besides the wife and two brothers, Lafayette of this city and Charles of Kansas, survive him.

He was one of the most influential and prominent men of this community.

The remains were buried under the auspices of the Merritt Hurst Post of the G.A.R. of which he was a charter member in Elmwood cemetery.
