Son of John Nelson Wakley and his first wife, Polly Woodland.

The Wakley family, then consisting of father (28), mother (29) and children John Nelson Wakley Jr (7), William Henry Harrison Wakley (5) and Lovina Henrietta Wakley (4) crossed the Great Plains from Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois to the Great Salt Lake Valley in Utah Territory.

Their oldest son, David Woodland Wakley, having been born 29 May 1840 at Nauvoo, died about 1841, prior to their wagon trek of 1848. Their 4th son, Hyrum Wakley had also been born and died in 1845 and Polly gave birth to triplets, Eli, Levi and Eva, born and died in 1847.

The family was in the Brigham Young Company, arriving in the valley between 20-24 September 1848. There were over 1200 people with the wagon vangard.

George Nathan was their second child born in Utah.

He married Lucy Ann Bloxham 20 December 1878 at Oxford, Bannock, Idaho. He was the father of George Nelson Wakley 1880-1945, md. Sarah Ellen Barnes; John Willard Wakley 1882-1948, md. Cora Barnes; Dicy Ann Wakley 1883-1951 md. (1) William Henry Hillman, (2) Guy Snyder; and Margaret Emma Wakley 1888-1986, md. Roy Edmund Faulkner.
