Salina, Utah - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Howard LaMar Christensen, passed away July 11, 2004 at the age of 86. Life and illness had dealt him many challenges the past few years. He succumbed peacefully in his sleep in Mayfield, Utah while recuperating from the latest of these challenges.

He was born to John and Josephine Madsen Christensen on October 30, 1917 in Redmond, Utah. He married the love of his life, Maxine Peterson on June 10, 1939. They have spent the past 65 years together always with the exception of the separation endured by both during Howard's service in the Navy as a Seaman 1st Class during World War II.

Howard enjoyed welding and mechanics of all sorts. Even though this was his trade up until retirement, he still enjoyed both hobbies whenever possible. He was an avid gardener, and you would be hard pressed to find a week anywhere in his garden. He also enjoyed hunting with his sons, which for many years was an annual ritual. As with most of his hobbies, changing health altered his ability to enjoy these things as he once had, so he took on a new outlook of instructing others how to do them.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine of Salina; his children: LaMar (Lin) Christensen of Salina; LaMont (LarSena) Christensen of West Valley City; Jerald (Donna) Christensen of Winnemucca, NV; Jeannene (Dee) Keisel, Carolee (Daryl) Noyes, Paula (Harve, deceased) Christensen, all of Salina; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchidlren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters: Twilla (Thad) Peterson of Salina; Joy (Allen) Poulson of Richfield; Maurine (William) Russell of Springville; Juanita (Truman) Olson of Grayland, Washington; sister-in-law: Irene Christensen.

He was preceded in death by a son, Marvin (Harve) Christensen; a great-grandson, Justin LaMar Christensen; a sister, Pharise Larsen; three brothers: Vannoy, Eldon and Leland Christensen.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 16, 2004 at 12 Noon in the Salina LDS Stake Center, 98 West 400 North in Salina. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Salina, Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 P.M. and at the Stake Center on Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Post #36 will be in the Salina Pioneer Cemetery.

We love you Dad and we'll miss you, but we know that you are finally free from pain and able to walk with no encumbrances.

The family would like to thank the Salina EMT's for their help and the Doctors and staff at the Gunnison Valley Hospital and the staff at the Mayfield Community Care Center for their care of Dad and for making his last few months as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
