BATESVILLE - Reverend Walter C. Ballard, 78, died Saturday, August 27, 2005, at his residence.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Rev. Jerry Sanford, Rev. Ray Legge and Rev. Gerald Walker will officiate. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.
Ballard, born Nov. 3, 1926, in St. Joseph, La., to the late C.C. and Lenora Russell Ballard, was the minister for Pharsalia Baptist Church. He was the former Baptist Association Missions Director of Panola County and Tishomingo County, a member of the Civitan Club, a prison chaplain at Parchman Penitentiary and volunteer chaplain for Baptist Hospice and Home Health and North Mississippi Hospice of Oxford. He was also a volunteer for Missions at Home and several countries outside of the United States, and was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army.
He was preceded in death by one son, Walter E. Ballard.
Survivors include his wife, Stella Wilson Ballard of Batesville; two sons, Phillip Ballard of Ridgeland and Gerald Ballard of Batesville; two daughters, Linda Ballard McCreary of Ripley and Sharon Ballard Woods of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Shirley Ballard McDaniel of Newellton, La., Ola Mae Ballard Kelley of Tatum, Texas and Betty Ballard Walton of Elm Grove, La.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to North Mississippi Hospice of Oxford or the charity of the donor's choice.
