Condary Strickland was born June 24, 1838 to Leasy Bailey and Berry Strickland. He married Julia Ann Smith and from that union they had ten children: George, Hilliard, Ada Hilda (Brackeen), Fletcher, Crockett, William B., Joel S., Mittie (Stewart), Rex T., and Lelia (Olsen). The Stricklands made their home in Lamar County, Texas.

Civil War Service:
Condary enlisted with Company E of the 2nd Mississippi Regiment ,and was mustered into service March 1, 1862. He was 22 years old and was the rank of private. He fought at Gaines Farm, Malvern Hill, 2nd Manassas, South Mountain, Sharpsburg, Siege of Suffolk, and Gettysburg, where he was captured July 1, 1863. The remainder of the war was spent at Ft. Delaware as a POW. Then the Oath of Allegiance was taken on June 11, 1865. He had a "ruddy complexion, light hair, blue eyes, and stood 5'11" tall.

Condary died June 13, 1901 and is buried in McDonald Cemetery in Howland, Texas beside his beloved wife, Julia.
