Cumberland [Iowa]- Funeral services for Mrs. Jerusha A. Pigsley, 95, who died at 12:25 yesterday [July 28, 1942] afternoon at her home in town, will be held Thursday in the Methodist church, with Rev. Clarence Wooiard officiating.
Mrs. Pigsley, the mother of 10 children, had lived in this community for about 48 years. She came to Iowa from Knox County, Ill., in a covered wagon with her husband and eight children in the fall of 1880. She had been affiliated with the Baptist church, but later was connected with the Methodist Ladies’ aid. She was a member of the G.A.R. Relief Corps.
She was born March 18, 1847, in Knox County, Ill., the daughter of Silas Roe and Mary Tift Roe.
She was married to Prince W. Pigsley [Sr.] Feb. 4, 1864 in Knoxville, Ill. He died Aug. 4, 1924.
Surviving are the following children: Mrs. T.M. Edwards and C.M. Pigsley of Cumberland; P.W., Jr. of Wiota; Mrs. W.C. Beatty of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. A. A. Rake of Midway City, S.D. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren survive. Also two sisters, Mrs. Laura Edmondson, St. Augustine, Ill., and Mrs. Mattie Phelps, Knoxville, Ill.
By request of the deceased, the body will lie in state at the Hodges funeral home.
Casket bearers will be F.R. Edwards, John A. Edwards, Perry Crum, Sharp Edwards, Louis Edwards, and George Moore.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
