Services for Dale Ray Bulla, 73, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008, in the Alexander Funeral Chapel with the Reverends Virgil Ridenour and Don Clark officiating. Interment will follow in the Hewitt Cemetery.


Born Sept. 23, 1934, in Dillard to Ray Alvin and Loyce Farriss Bulla, he departed this life on June 24, 2008, at his home.


He was preceded in death by his father, on Jan. 12, 1968; his mother, on March 25, 1994; and a son, Ray Alan Bulla, on May 22, 2005.


He married Thressa John Gilliam on March 11, 1955, in Ardmore.


Raised in the Dillard community, he attended school in Wilson and graduated in 1952. In high school, he was a Golden Glove boxer. He attended college for a few years before beginning a career in the oil field. He worked all over the world as a drilling superintendent for Exxon and Arco.


After retirement, he authored several books and short stories, publishing the well-known book, "Roughnecks." He also enjoyed deep-sea fishing and playing dominoes, and was a very talented musician.


Survivors include his wife, of the home; a daughter, Grynna Dewbre and her husband, Jack, of Moore; two sons, Randall Bulla and his wife, LaVeeda, and Mickey Bulla, all of Wilson; a brother, Dan Bulla and his wife, Fay, of Healdton; seven grandchildren, Daniel Bulla and his wife, Stephanie, of Washington, Chad Dewbre and his wife, Jacquelin, of Waco, Texas, Jill Hunt and her husband, Billy, Brandon Bulla and his wife, Sunny, Dustin Bulla and his wife, Christy, all of Wilson, Brandi Earhart and her husband, Ray, of Ardmore, and Amanda and her husband, Heath, of Wilson; nine great-grandchildren, Tyler Bulla, Lexi and Brady Hunt, Eric, Seth, and Ryan Hausley, Jacey and Callie Dewbre, and Trevor Earhart; and numerous other family and friends.


Bearers will be grandsons Daniel Bulla, Chad Dewbre, Billy Hunt, Brandon Bulla and Dustin Bulla.


Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today, in the Alexander Funeral Home.
