Mary Magaline Nix born December 27, 1899 in Dallas County, AR and died January 25, 1970 in the Hot Spring County Hospital. She was called Lena by her friends. She married Robert Roy Kilmer on February 12 1922. Their children were Eurma Jean Kilmer, J.C. Kilmer born 1923 and died 1926, Cleo Catherine Kilmer born 1925 died 1926, Baby Kilmer born 1929 and died 1929, Roy Travis Kilmer. Lena, like a lot of the women of that era, dipped snuff. She ended up with cancer of the jaw bone and had a section removed first, then the entire lower jaw bone had to be removed, and in 1970 she died from the cancer. I can recall the wonderful lunches she made for grandpa and his workers who were harvesting hay. They would come in and she would have a huge spread with several vegetables, different meats and several deserts. She loved to cook. A wonderful lady with a great sense of humor.
