Jan. 16, 1947 - June 18, 2008
In loving memory
Chris Mills passed away June 18, 2008 at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield at the age of 61. Chris was born on Jan. 16, 1947 to Ernest and Jessie Christie in Lake City, Mich. She moved to Hollywood, Calif. when she was 25 where she met her husband, Rae, and they began their family. After having two daughters, Rae and Chris moved to the Lake Isabella area.
Chris and her family lived in the Lake Isabella area for several years. Chris was involved in all of her daughters' activities including the PTA, soccer and Rainbow Girls. Chris spent a lot of time with her kids whether it was lounging by the pool, having slumber parties or just watching TV.
A few years after the loss of her husband, Chris moved to Ridgecrest and began working at Jack-in-the-Box. Chris worked at Jack-in-the-Box as a supervisor for about seven years. At first glance, many people thought Chris was unhappy because she never smiles, but as you grew to know her you learned that that was just the outside, on the inside she was a caring person that would help anybody she could and loved her family, friends, and her job very much. To this day, Chris is probably still talking about telling her boss she will be back to work in a couple days and trying to decide what treat she was going to cook next.
Besides her love for her job, Chris enjoyed spending time with her grandson, Darrin, and her dog, Daunte. She was always doing something, whether it be going to yard sales with her best friend, Rene, sitting at home watching TV, doing search for words, rearranging her collection of Coca Cola items, or cooking some of her wonderful food that everyone loved to come try. A day didn't go by where she wasn't at Jack-in-the-Box just to say 'hi' and calling her daughters just to talk.
Chris is survived by her two daughters, Robin Mills of Ridgecrest, and Jessica Mills-Ostrom of Lake Isabella; her grandson Darrin Rice II of Ridgecrest; her son in law, Josh Ostrom of Lake Isabella; her mother-in-law, Rachel Mills of Bakersfield; her sister Alma Swiger of Michigan; her brother Jack Christie of Arkansas; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Rae Mills, her parents Ernest and Jessie Christie, her father-in-law Ellis Mills, her sister Erma Jean, and her brother Roger.
Chris will be missed by many. A graveside service will be held Friday, June 27 at 1:00 p.m. at Kern Valley Cemetery in Wofford Heights, Calif. and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 28, at 12:00 pm at Crossroads Church in Ridgecrest. If you have any questions please contact Robin Mills at 760-382-4510 or Jessica Mills-Ostrom at 760-417-0713. Services entrusted to Sierra Mortuary & Funeral Home.
