George Washington Sparkman, 81, died last night at his home, 811 Seventh avenue.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. from the West Huntsville Baptist church, with the Rev. J. Vernon Rich officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill cemetery with Laughlin-Service funeral home in charge.
Mr. Sparkman is survived by his widow, Mrs. Martha Sparkman; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Lue Dupree of Cartersville, Ga. Mrs. Emma Williams of Augusta, Mrs. Ethel Orr of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mrs. Bessie McCoy of Hinchcliffe, Miss.; one son, Ocie Sparkman; one brother, Jim Sparkman of Walling, Tenn.; 24 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. and Mrs. Sparkman had been married 65 years on Feb. 21.
The grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be W. W. Killian, Louis Perry, Rebon Smith, Aubry Thompson, Dr. O. J. Brooks, Judge Brown, O. J. Hatchett and Gordon Bishop.
