OKKE BOOMGARDEN OBITUARY:
On January 19, 1903, very suddenly, by heart failure, he was taken from our midst.
Born in Campen, Ostfriesland, Germany, Oct. 4, 1827, he reached the age of 76 years, 3 months and 15 days. He came to America in 1856 and settled in Oregon, Illinois. Ten years later he came to Steamboat Rock, Ia., and one year later settled in Buck Grove, Ia. as a farmer, and lived there for 37 years. His wife died 30 years before he.
He then married Albertdina Tebkes with whom he lived happily for 15 years when she was taken from his side. He lived 16 months alone till his death. Rev. Wieseler preached his funeral from Matthew 24: 42-44. Rev. Schmitt spoke from Hebrew 4:10. This brings the announcement of children and grandchildren: Jacob Boomgaarden, Mrs. John Kruger, Mrs. Wilke Brauer, Mrs. Harm Van Hauen, Marten Boomgarden, Okke Boomgarden.
Buck Grove, Iowa

Immigration: 1856 New York, New York

The following obituary was provided by F.A.G. member KDB (49659419)

Okke Baumgartner, an aged man living in Pleasant Valley township, Grundy county, died very suddenly Tuesday afternoon from heart disease. The old gentleman was working about the barnyard and went into the house for the purpose of making some tea. A little while after he was discovered in the house, seated in a chair, dead. He had placed the tea pot on the stove and had the cups ready to pour the tea. He had seemingly died without a struggle. He was sixty-five years of age and had been a resident of that township for a good many years.
