US Congressman. In 1830 he moved to Rutherford, Tennessee, where he owned a farm and served in the state legislature. He moved to Springfield, Missouri in 1839, where he continued farming and served in the Missouri House of Representatives. In 1844 he was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Democrat and served one term, 1845 to 1847. He did not run for reelection in 1846 and returned to farming in Rutherford, Tennessee. In 1859 Sims moved to Batesville, Arkansas, where he continued to farm. He was a member of the Arkansas Senate from 1866 to 1870 and 1874 to 1878, including service as Senate President.
