Karlstad - Kenneth Boen, 76, died Saturday, March 31, 2001 at Karlstad Memorial Nursing Center in Karlstad.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad with Rev. Gary Halverson officiating. Kirstin Olson was the organist, and the soloist was Everett Englund. Casketbearers were Andrew Boen, Paul Boen, Brent Boen, Justin Dagen, Jerome Brekke and Eric Bjorkman. Military honors were accorded by the Karlstad American Legion Post. Interment was in the Karlstad Cemetery with Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad in charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth Clifford Boen was born on June 2, 1924 at Strandquist, the son of Andrew and Hilda (Brekke) Boen. He grew up and attended school at Strandquist and was baptized and confirmed at Hegland Lutheran Church, rural Strandquist.

Kenneth served with the U.S. Navy from 1944 until 1946 and was stationed in the Philippines.

On January 13, 1951, he was united in marriage to Arlis Swenson at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad. The couple farmed until 1960 when they moved to Longview, Wash. In 1965, they returned to Karlstad and raised beef cattle until Kenneth's health forced his retirement in 1976. Since May 6, 1999, he had resided at Karlstad Healthcare Center.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Arlis; a daughter, Monica of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Vernice (Dwight) Sandgren of Bemidji and Margaret (Earl) Kelly of Farmington; two brothers, Orlean of Burnsville and Wallace (Mary) of Boston, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twin daughters in infancy; and a brother, Marvin.
