Services for Celia Ann Martin, 81, of Ardmore will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Wall officiating. Interment will follow in Nelda Cemetery.


Born Aug. 17, 1926, in Pontotoc, to Jim and Cully Chubbee Sampson, she died Saturday, June 21, 2008, in Lone Grove. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four sisters, two brothers, and three grandchildren.


She married Felix Martin in August 1951 in Arkansas and had three children. After her marriage, they moved to Madill. In 1960, she moved to Ardmore where she worked at Head Start for many years. She was known as "Grandma Martin" to many Head Start children and loved working there. She enjoyed sewing and making quilts. She was a member of the Ardmore Indian Baptist Church and was a proud full-blood Choctaw. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.


Survivors include a son, Billy Martin Sr. and his wife, Kathy, Ardmore; two daughters, Joyce Thomas, Santee, Neb. and Evelyn Brown and her husband, Jack, Lone Grove; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.


Bearers will be Jerry Denham, Jayed John, Harold Ned, Johnny Wallace, Jason Wallace, and Jimmy Lewis. Honorary bearers will be Sally Palmer, Nadine Lewis and Melissa West.


Wake service will be at 6 p.m. today at Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home.
