Ray was born into several pioneer families in Upshur County. There were the Ray, Mings, Johnson, and Morris families. His parents were George H.and Mary Ethel (Johnson) Morris. Ray lived most of his life in the Pritchett area.
He attended HS at Pritchett. He was married to Mable Newsom of Upshur County in 1940.
Ray entered the U.S.Army Coast Artillery in 1942. He trained in California and Oregon, and served in Europe. Awarded M-1 Marksman Medal and GC Medal. Discharged from the Army in 1945.
He and his wife Mable had only 1 child together, a daughter, Barbara Ann,born 1/20/1947 who died at fifteen years old in an auto accident on Hwy.155 on 9/27/1962.
