He married Martha Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ephraim Jones. They were married April 1, 1841 in Florenceville, Carleton County, New Brunswick, Canada. Robert and Martha raised twelve children.
In the summer of 1866, Robert and his sons purchased land from Jeremiah Trueworth in Aroostook County, Maine.
In 1886, Robert traveled to Houlton, Maine to file intentions to become a United States citizen.
They moved from Greenfield in 1868.
He was a shoe cobler by trade. A trade that he learned from his father.
