John was born near Lancaster, Dec. 28, 1922, the son of Adam and Cezaria (Zawadska) Gorski. He was baptized and confirmed in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and attended the Northstar Country School. He worked at several area farms before entering the U.S. Navy during WWII.
On Sept. 28, 1957 he married Florence Olsonoski at the Holy Rosary Church. They made their home for a short time in Humboldt, and later moved north of Lancaster to run the family farm. John drove water truck for Clarence Iten in Humboldt and later drove milk truck and fuel truck. He retired in 1984. Florence died in 1999.
John was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing cards, especially a good game of whist or cribbage, with his family.
Family members include a son, David, Lancaster; two daughters, Deb (Todd) Roach, East Grand Forks, and Dianne (Allen) Anderson, Thief River Falls; six grandchildren, Holly, Darcy, Tracy, Corey, Kari and Zane; three brothers, Edward (Barbara) Gorski, Inver Grove Heights, Benjamin (Alma) Gorski, Springfield, and Carl (Mary) Gorski, Minneota; two sisters, Victoria (Leonard) Burnham, Texas, Johanna Olsonawski, Hallock; a brother-in-law, William Olsonoski and special friend Mary Ann Schmiedeberg, Thief River Falls; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Florence; a son, Daniel; a brother, Joseph; and three sisters, Anne, Bernice and Eva.
Funeral services were Monday, March 17, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, rural Lancaster, with Rev. Timothy Noah presiding.
Interment was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Larry Olsonawski, Gerald Karol, Greg Gorski, Mark Gorski, Paul Gorski, Greg Wilson, Mark Nelson and Gary Olsonoski.
