Explorer and Business Man. He led an expedition to the Three Forks, in the Montana Mountains, where he built Fort Henry, went on to discover Lake Henry, and then built a post near what is now Saint Anthony, Idaho. In 1822, with
William Ashley
he formed the Rocky Mountain Fur Company. They ran an ad in search of 100 men seeking adventure, this bought many now famous explorers in which he trained and led to the Rocky Mountains. Instead of using trading posts, he came up with the idea of having a rendezvous, which kept the fur traders mobile, along with trading usable goods to the Indians, instead of alcohol for pelts. Both of these ideas helped to lure the Indians to the rendezvous instead of trading at competitors trading posts.
